From a very young age Christopher Martinez has found himself behind a set of handle bars. From bicycles to motocross and four wheelers, if it allowed Christopher to be outside exploring while testing the limits of not only the bike but himself, then he was on it. This passion led him to attend the Motorcycle Mechanics Institute in Phoenix, Arizona from 2007-2009 where he learned the ins and outs of working on engines, gears, suspension, brakes and more. 

Christopher’s new found skills came to play an important role as he entered into the world of Mountain Bike racing. Not only could he effectively work on his own bike between races he started helping friends with theirs. Going into 2017 Christopher found himself having a steady stream of bikes to repair as he worked out of his home in Aztec, NM. All the while Christopher was working a full time job in the Oil and Gas industry until in Feb 2020 Chris decided to change careers and make bikes a much bigger part of his life. 

Opening up Sandstone Cycles in February 2020 in Bloomfield NM, Christopher hit the ground running. The business quickly grew and was soon in need of hiring part time employees to help take care of the high demand of bike repairs and sales. At times feeling like he had bitten off more than he could chew, Christopher didn’t allow this pressure to slow him down but instead it propelled him to work out the kinks and make Sandstone Cycles the best it could be. This meant moving the shop to the business hub of neighboring town Farmington NM, where he would become the areas only Trek Bikes dealer. 

Today you can find Sandstone Cycles ideally located across from San Juan College and central to local bike parks and majority of Farmington’s single track trails. 

Christopher will happily acknowledge that Sandstone Cycles could not exist without the help of his amazing and skilled wife, Tawney. Together they have three children and still live in Aztec NM where it all started. 

The future of Sandstone Cycles is the mission of getting more people on bikes and being the best bike shop around. With a loyal customer base and a track record of quality sales and service, Sandstone Cycles is well on the way to achieving this and more.
